February ’23 DAR Star: Carol Barach

We work with absolutely incredible people—and we all have varied interests and experiences, which adds to the unique makeup of the University of Georgia. We’ll be regularly spotlighting a few rock stars from around the division so that even if you don’t cross paths with them in the break room or Zoom with them on a weekly basis, you can get to know colleagues who can enhance your work life and productivity.

Name: Carol Barach

Title: Senior Administrative Specialist, Office of the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations

  • What might people not know about your job? One of my favorite things about my job is that I can help others be more effective by maximizing their time and resources. My days are very interesting and unpredictable—each one brings a new adventure and opportunity to work with varied situations and people. I wear many hats and never know what exciting challenges each day will bring.

Where did you grow up? Oswego, New York

Where do you like to grab lunch in Athens? I’ll go with Chick-fil-A because it’s my go-to when I forget my lunch at home.

My family … I live with my husband, Gus, who works from home as a business analyst, and my dog, Beaker.

Outside of work, I’m passionate about … music education.

Favorite podcast? My favorite podcast is Twenty Thousand Hertz

Lately, I’ve been watching … Glass Onion, A Knives Out Mystery

A song that really pumps me up is … “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen

Something you might not know about me is … I am a classical musician. I taught orchestra in the Atlanta Public Schools.

My dream vacation (cost and time aside) would be to visit … Lofoten, Norway. And I would love to travel to Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia and visit relatives in that area of the world.
