Texting opportunities with the Engagement Center

UGA student representatives are utilizing texting at the Engagement Center
by Jill Bateman

Telephone usage is seeing some surprising results in the current environment. You may have heard voice calls are hitting all-time highs during daytime hours and virtual conferencing opportunities are tracking milestone usage rates as well. During this time, everyone is learning that relationships matter and what better way to connect, or reconnect, than with a call, video conference or text.

UGA is following this trend by engaging alumni through texting campaigns. We promoted the COVID-19 resource page to a number of alumni with mobile phone contact information. Upon visiting the website, alumni could watch an inspirational video, share a COVID-19 story, participate in alumni or career virtual activities or support one of the Student Emergency Funds. Alumni responded with special anecdotes of how Bulldogs are making a difference, offered emoji reactions 👍😁👏 and wrote texts of thanks.

Calling All Dawgs offered another texting campaign opportunity for Bulldogs. Coach Kirby Smart kicked off the campaign April 18th with a special video message. He emphasized how our world is different today and offered ways for the Bulldog family to come together and make a difference.

Whether special campaigns, information, events or invitations, UGA alumni can expect to hear more from their alma mater using a variety of communication channels. If your school, college or unit is interested in some of our new tools at the Engagement Center, reach out to Jill Bateman or Reese Jones—we’re here to help!
