Ta-Da! Introducing Emailed Gift Receipts

You have waited patiently, and they are finally here: many gift receipts are now being delivered to email inboxes!

Thanks to DAR’s investment in a new add-on for GAIL, Gift Accounting, in partnership with Advancement Services, is now able to email gift receipts to donors. A group of DAR colleagues from several areas in the division developed a plan to roll out this exciting new service. A phased implementation was determined to be the best approach—beginning with online and phonathon donors. Once the performance of the new process is evaluated (and enhanced, if need be), gifts paid by cash and check will be added.

Gift information will be arranged on the electronic receipt in a different format to suit both desktop and mobile devices; however, donors will receive all the information necessary to take a tax deduction. Donors will be able to confirm their gift was designated properly, and tribute information will be provided when applicable. Here is an example of Hairy Dawg’s latest e-receipt:

The primary email address on a donor’s record will be used for sending the receipt. Donors who receive an email receipt will have an opportunity to opt out by emailing ude.agu@stfig if they prefer to continue to receive printed receipts by mail. Receipting preference will be maintained in GAIL under the “communication preferences” area on constituent records.

Other gift types, such as stock and gifts-in-kind, will be considered in the future, as well as gifts made by organizations.

If you have questions about the UGA Foundation’s new email gift receipt, please email Gift Accounting at ude.agu@stfig.
